Adding domains to your VPS using webmain

One of the most common tasks you'll perform is adding a new domain name to your server. Here's how to do it.

Adding the domain to your VPS

  1. Login to webmin
  2. Select the "servers" link in the left hand menu.
  3. Select "Apache Webserver" from the list that appears
  4. Select the "Create virtual host" tab.
  5. For "Port" select the checkbox and put "80" in the box next to it
  6. For "document root", enter the directory for which you want the website to reside. You can type it directly or press the "..." button to see a file browser.
  7. For "Server Name", select the second checkbox and type the domain name you are configuring in the box. Leave off "www" - for example, not
  8. Press the "Create Now" button.
  9. Select the "servers" link in the left hand menu.
  10. Select "Apache Webserver" from the list that appears
  11. Click "Apply Changes" in the top right hand corner (you can skip this if you are also adding a www sub-domain below).

Adding a alias

  1. Press the "Apache webserver" link in the left hand sidebar again.
  2. A list of servers appears, your newly created server should be in the list - click the link for your new server (the globe icon)
  3. On the page that comes up, click the "Networking and Addresses" icon (the second icon on the page).
  4. In the section "Alternate virtual server names", enter the domain name preceded by www - for example,
  5. Click save
  6. Click "Apply changes" in the top right hand corner of the page

Adding DNS for the domain

If you manage your own DNS through your registar, login to their system and add "A records" for the domain and any sub-domains you configure (

If your domain's DNS is handled by us (you updated your nameservers to, do the following:

  1. Delete the domain from your account if already added.
  2. Login to your control panel
  3. Click the "Domain" link in the top header
  4. Follow the link "Click here to access the domain tools for your shared hosting account." if present.
  5. Click "Add an extra domain"
  6. Choose option three "redirect to an IP address"
  7. Enter the IP address assigned to your VPS

It will take a few hours for DNS to update in most cases depending upon the particulars of your domain and DNS manage / registrar.
