Fixing SSL certificate errors on Apple devices
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to change the incoming and outgoing server names in your iOS device (iPhone/iPad) as described in step #2 of the article above.
1. Select the ‘Settings' icon
2. Select 'Passwords & Accounts’
3. Select the mail account you are trying to adjust
4. Under "INCOMING MAIL SERVER", find the field that says "Host Name" and replace mail.your_domain_name with either:
USERNAME.phpwebhosting.com (preferred) or SERVER_NAME.phpwebhosting.com
Important notes: please replace USERNAME in username.phpwebhosting.com with your hosting account username - NOT your email username. Your hosting account username is the one you created when you opened your account and enter to access your phpwebhosting.com control panel.
If username.phpwebhosting.com doesn't work, please use SERVER_NAME.phpwebhosting.com. Please replace SERVER_NAME in server_name.phpwebhosting.com with the name of your server. You can find your server name by logging in to your control panel and looking in the address bar of your browser. A server name example would be gold.phpwebhosting.com
5. Make sure the incoming username and passwords boxes are not empty. If so, enter your username and password for this email address.
Note: The incoming username should be your whole email address (example: info@your_domain_name). Just your username (example: info) will not work. The incoming password will be whatever password you assigned to this email address.
6. Under "OUTGOING MAIL SERVER", click where it says 'SMTP' and shows your current SMTP server name.
- If your current SMTP server is smtp1.phpwebhosting.com. You do not need to do anything further. Just click the 'Done' button in the upper left corner of your screen.
- If your current SMTP server is SMTP.your_domain_name, this may mean you have a dedicated SMTP server. If this is the case, please contact support for the new SMTP server name. Click "Done" for now and support will advise what to change the SMTP server name to.
- If your current SMTP server is MAIL.your_domain_name, click on the SMTP server name and proceed to the next screen.
7. At the top of the next screen, under "PRIMARY SERVER", click on the server name.
8. Under "OUTGOING MAIL SERVER", click where is says "Host Name" and replace mail.your_domain_name with either USERNAME.phpwebhosting.com or SERVER_NAME.phpwebhosting.com just like you did for the incoming mail server.
9. Make sure the outgoing username and passwords boxes are not empty. If so, enter your email address and password. Although it may say the outgoing username and password are optional, they are not. You must enter your username and password here just like in step #5.
10. Click the "Done" button. It will now verify your settings. Once it is done verifying, click on the back (<) arrow in the upper left corner of your screen.
11. Now click the 'Done' button on the upper right corner of the original screen.
You should no longer receive the SSL warning. If you continue to receive the warning, please go back to 'Passwords & Accounts' and make sure both the incoming and outgoing server names now show either USERNAME.phpwebhosting.com or SERVER_NAME.phpwebhosting.com and not mail.your_domain_name. If either server still shows mail.your_domain_name, please repeat the corresponding steps above until you can verify both the incoming and outgoing server names are set to either USERNAME.phpwebhosting.com or SERVER_NAME.phpwebhosting.com.
